Help
Protect Foundations with Temp Vent
The
foundation is critical to the integrity of the
home. That’s why foundation
ventilation is critical. Unventilated
foundations are subject to built-up moisture
that can eventually lead to costly damage.
Temp Vent
foundation vent systems help protect this
critical area of the home. What’s more,
ventilation can help control conditions that
lead to mold, mildew, fungi, damp rot and
unhealthy air.
But
there’s more. If there’s one
thing termites are attracted to, it’s warm,
moist, dead air environments such as those found
under houses in crawl spaces or unfinished
basements.
Temp-Vent
foundation vents are designed to provide
ventilation that can reduce moisture in these
areas, which helps control termites.

Temp-Vent foundation vents help control moisture
build-up and termites in crawl spaces and are
available right here for your convenience.

Automatic Foundation
Vents
The non-powered,
Automatic Foundation Vent will open and close
automatically using a heat/cold sensitive coil. The
louvers open completely at approximately 72°F and
completely close at approximately 38°F. Unlike manual
vents that can waste energy when no one remembers to
open or close them, these vents self-adjust all year
long. Vented
vs. Sealed Crawlspaces
To Specify:
Whenever possible, vents should be placed on all sides
of the foundation. This will create an intake/exhaust
system that delivers a steady flow of air. One vent
should be installed for each 8 to 10 feet of foundation
wall.
Most building codes
require 1 square foot of open ventilation area for every
150 square feet of crawl space. Temp Vent Automatic
Foundation Vents have 50 inches of net free area per
vent. Therefore, you should install one vent for
every 50 square feet of crawl space.
For crawl spaces with
polyethylene installed, on 80-90% of the ground, the
ventilation requirement changes to 1 square foot of
ventilation for every 500 square feet of crawl space
with a minimum of 4 vents installed to provide cross
ventilation. For crawl spaces with polyethylene, install
at least one vent for every 500 square feet of crawl
space.
Installation Tips for
Automatic Foundation Vents
- For
proper ventilation, one vent should be installed
every 8-10 feet.
- Avoid
dead air spaced by placing vents within 3 feet of
each corner.
- A
minimum of 4 vents are required to provide
cross-ventilation.
- Dense
shrubbery should be trimmed for the vents to be
effective.
Warranty
for Automatic Foundation Vents
- Temp-Vents
are warranted forever.
- Warranty
applies, no matter who owns the house
Note:
This is the original Automatic Vents (Patent in the
60's) All other auto vents are clones of this vent and
only have one year warranties plus the product materials
are not of the same quality materials as the Temp-Vent.

Power
Foundation Vents
For homes that require a higher
rate of airflow, the Power Temp Vent is the ideal choice.
Powered vents are quick, convenient and economical when it
comes to controlling moisture and odor problems.
Air is suctioned out of the crawl space and replaced with
fresh outside air. Negative pressure helps prevent dampness
and odor from rising into living areas of the home. |

The
approximate outside dimensions of the crawl space door
frame are 29" tall and 42" wide, and may be
installed full size if space allows. However, if space is
limited, the frame may be cut to size using standard tools
(skill saw, jigsaw). The frame is designed to be trimmed
side to side and from the top.
The minimum size to which the frame can be trimmed is
29" wide x 23" tall.
When
securing doorframe to house structure, wood screws or tap
con type concrete screws may be used. Space screws a
maximum of 12" apart and pre-drill holes in frame
slightly larger than the diameter of the fasteners to be
used.
Note: Special size drill bit will be required for
concrete screws.
Because the
door is recessed, a minimum structural opening of 21"
tall x 27" wide is required. If this opening does not
exist, 1x2's or 1x4's can be secured to the structure and
the doorframe can be secured to these.
Although
the plastic contains some UV protection, painting may
increase the level of protection. Either latex or oil base
paints (most brands of spray cans) is acceptable with oil
base paints being more durable.

In
this image you see, 4 mil. polyethylene plastic is placed at
ground level in crawl spaces to stop moisture from rising up and
settling into your structural timbers. About 80 to 90% of the
ground is covered. This is national recommended standards. If the
wood dries out to quickly, buckling of the wood joist and flooring
could occur.
To
purchase the plastic for the do it yourself homeowners. Cost
$25.95 per roll. It is sold by the 4x100ft rolls/ 400sq.ft. per
roll. Don't make the mistake of going to the hardware store
and purchasing the 10x100sq. ft. roll. Big Mistake…You
probably will save a few bucks but the task of unraveling this
monster is not worth the savings. Remember, you have to accomplish
that task under the home in a tight space.
